This year, Dan Grevas Photography is excited to announce our 16th annual Kaposia Days Cute Kid Contest! We've been doing this since 1997 - some of our Cute Kid winners probably have Cute Kids of their own by now - but every year is just as much fun as the year before!

The best thing about the contest is it supports a great cause - Neighbors, Inc. Food Shelf, right here in South St. Paul, benefits from the generous donations of community members who come to vote for their favorite kids.

Here's how it works: get your child (or children's) pictures taken between now and June 6, and your child will be automatically entered into our contest. You can choose the Cute Kid Special and snag a 15-pose session and Facebook Image of your little one for only $29.95. Have fun with your session! Bring props or clothes that show off your child's unique personality. This contest is open to all children ages six months to 10 years, and you don't need to be a South St. Paul resident to enter. If you have a niece, nephew, cousin or grandchild who lives anywhere in the metro, invite them to join the fun!

On Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12, we invite community members to come view portraits of all the Cute Kid contestants at our studio. Voters choose their three favorites in each age category (six months to two years, and two years to 10 years); this style of voting makes it more fair to all participants. To get your ballot, please bring a non-perishable food item or $1 donation to Neighbors Inc. (Bring more if you like, all donations go straight to Neighbors Food Shelf.)

We'll tally the votes (we don't vote because we think all our subjects are adorable!) and notify the winners' families by phone on or before June 17th. The winners will be awarded a framed enlargement of their winning portrait and all participants will be displayed on Marie Avenue during Kaposia Days weekend.

Dan's had a few requests to the do the voting via Facebook, but we're keeping our in-person tradition for now. Our voters have lots of fun finding each other's children and "Ooohing" and "Ahhing" over all the CUTE kids in our community. Plus, it's a great way to support Neighbor's Food Shelf - we've collected hundreds of dollars and pounds of food over the years. We're looking into ways to use online voting as a supplement to our on-site voting, so we'll keep you posted.

After more than 30 years in business, we’re excited to shake things up with our first trip into the blogosphere. We hope you’ll be excited, too, to engage with us as we share studio goings-on, portrait specials and insights into the world of professional photography.

The launch of our first blog couldn’t come at a better time: We’re also launching a new website and expanding the use of our mobile website. May brings primo outdoor portrait weather and the launch of our 15th annual Kaposia Days Cute Kid Contest – photographing adorable local youngsters all day is a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it – and we have, for more than a decade! Judging is done by members of the community, who donate a food item or $1 to get their ballot. Over the years, we’ve raised thousands of dollars and countless barrels of food for longtime partner Neighbors Inc. Food Shelf. You can see last year’s winners here.

Spring is also the time we look forward to senior portrait season. Area soon-to-be graduates keep us hopping all summer long, and we don’t expect this year to be any different. It’s always fun to see the fashions and passions of each year’s senior class.

Feel free to look around our new website and tell us what you think in the comments section below. We’re always looking to make the online and in-studio experience even better for our customers.

Stop back soon!

Congratulations on the new Blog!
